Our story

Flourish Roots Hair Co. is a natural hair salon in Isolo, Lagos. We started because too many women were losing hair in salon chairs, and we are built around one stubborn idea: a style is only good if the hair underneath it is still healthy when the style comes down.

The beginning

Women would sit down and say a version of the same thing. My edges are going. My hair does not grow past a point. The last salon braided me so tight I could not sleep. I have stopped bothering.

The hair itself was rarely the problem. 4C hair is dense and tightly coiled and it holds a shape beautifully — but it is dry by nature and it does not forgive rough handling. Combed dry, it snaps. Braided tight, it lets go at the hairline. Left in a style too long, it mats at the root.

None of that is a flaw in the hair. It is a gap in how the hair is being handled. Flourish Roots exists to close that gap — at Shop 303, Destiny Plaza on Ago Palace Way, and in the routines clients take home with them.

I would rather you left with a simpler style and all your hair, than a perfect style and a thinning hairline.

That rule is the whole method, and it is why coaching sits beside the styling rather than behind it. Clients were coming back after six weeks with the same breakage, having done everything wrong for reasons nobody had ever explained to them. A salon chair is six hours. A routine is the other six weeks.

How we work

Five rules, and why they exist

Every one of these is something you can hold us to while you are in the chair. That is the test we set them.

The hair comes first, then the style
Every appointment starts with a look at your scalp, edges and ends. If your hair is not ready for what you booked, we say so, and offer you something that works today.
Gentle is a technique, not a mood
Damp detangling. Clean sectioning. Working from the ends up. Tension you can sleep in. These are repeatable methods, which is why every stylist here learns them the same way.
Honesty over upselling
We will tell you when you do not need a treatment, and when a style you saw online will not sit on your density. We would rather keep you for years than maximise one visit.
You should leave able to look after it
Advice at the door is not enough. You get the routine written down — wash day, night care, when to take it out — because the six weeks after matter more than the six hours in the chair.
Nobody gets shamed here
Relaxed, transitioning, matted, or neglected while you were surviving something else. We have seen all of it. You will get help, not a lecture.
